Cinnamon Chocolate With Cranberry Trail Mix--Addictive!

I am one of those crazy people that would rather order onion rings than ice cream at Dairy Queen. I was born with a "salty tooth" instead of a sweet one. However, once in a while I just crave something sweet and delicious, so when I saw this post by the Parsley Thief (a great blog by the way), I was of course intrigued. So at 7:30 on Monday night my three year old and I played scientist in the kitchen and came up with our own version. The only bad thing is that this Cinnamon Chocolate with Cranberry Trail Mix is ADDICITIVE. I had never had cinnamon flavored chocolate before, but since cinnamon is one of my favorite flavors,I thought I would give it a try. Now, I can officially say I am in love. Even my "salty tooth self" couldn't help but break off tiny pieces the whole next day. So, in the spirit of being skinny, treat yourself to a few pieces, then pass it on to your kids! (It would also make a lovely gift for a teacher in a clear little bag with a pretty ribbon) I plan on experimenting with white chocolate and candy canes when the Christmas season nears.

Here's What You Need:1 Dark chocolate bar (at least 60% cacao)
1 White chocolate bar
2/3 cup of your favorite cranberry trail mix (Plus an additional 2/3 cup for the topping)
2 TBS fat free 1/2 + 1/2
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp vanilla

Here's What You Do:Break the chocolate into bite size peices and then heat over low heat, stirring constantly. Add in the 1/2+1/2 and the cinnamon and vanilla. When it is completely melted and smooth, add in the first 2/3 cup of trail mix. Lay a piece of parchment paper out on a baking sheet and use a spatula to spread out the chocolate. Top with the remaining 2/3 cup of trail  mix. Put in the fridge over night to cool. (This makes about 3/4 of a baking sheet worth of "bark", so feel free to double the mix if you are giving it as gifts)

Kid Tip:Really? I think not. None needed. I more had to fend my three year old off from eating it for breakfast!

It's not too late!

  1. I was definitely born with a 'salty' tooth, as much as I like some sweets. I also like that, despite being called skinny mommy, you post about ways to make chocolate snacks. I said I prefer sweets but am a chocoholic.
